Course Description:
The shotgun is one of the most versatile and powerful firearms you will probably have access to. Many individuals have this long gun in the home for personal protection. Let us show you how to operate this shotgun and its uses inside and outside the home.
This is a novice class. While no previous training is required, you should have an understanding of how to operate your shotgun safely.
Course Outline:
Mindset: Awareness and safety
Overview of: Manual of Operations and Marksmanship
Firearms Safety: Four rules of gun handling
Loading and Unloading a shotgun
Shot and Pattering: Understanding the ballistic capabilities
Surgical application
Various Shooting positions
Varying distance (CQB and ranged)
What to bring:
--Open Mind and willingness to learn
--Working shotgun (pump, semi-auto, double, or single barrel)
--200 rounds of BIRDSHOT of the appropriate caliber/gauge
-15 rounds of buckshot
-5 slugs
--ability to carry all your gear (belt, chest rig, pouches, etc.) and spare ammunition (pockets will work)
--Wide brimmed hat/ball cap for safety on range
--Safety Glasses (ANSI rated)
--Hearing Protection (muffs recommended)
-- Clothing appropriate for the weather
--Bug spray/sun block
-- Driver’s license or state ID, military personnel also bring military ID
--Concealed carry permit (if you have one already)
-Snacks, water/hydration, lunch—we do a working lunch
Tips:
-While you should be familiar with firearms safety, the manual of arms for your weapon, and shooting at a range with others. While ALL of these topics will be covered in class, it is expected you have an understanding on how your shotgun operates. Conduct yourself accordingly.
-Be familiar with the operations of your firearm, try to get to the range at least once leading up to the class and test the gear --(gun/mags/ammo/sights/holster/earpro/eye protection) you will be using at the course.

*While it would be best to be a graduate of the Intro Rifle class, you must at least have an understanding of how to shoot your rifle AND handgun.
